Filter sand
Filter sand is poured into the sand filter pump, after which the pool water is pumped through the sand bed. In the sand bed, all dirt particles from the water remain behind the sand grains. Dirt remains in the sand filter and the water flows cleanly back to the pool. This filter sand has a fine grain (grain size 0.4 - 0.8 mm) and lasts 4 to 5 years before it needs to be replaced.
Filter glass vs. filter sand
Are you looking for a filter medium that filters cleaner and lasts longer than filter sand? At Zwembadgigant, we recommend filter glass as a filter medium instead of sand. Filter glass lasts 80% longer than filter sand and cleans the pool water more effectively. Rinsing out the sand bed ('backwashing') is necessary much less often with filter glass than with sand. In addition, filter glass is easier and faster to rinse clean, so you use less pool water and less energy.
Required amount of filter sand
Sand filter pumps are supplied as standard without filter sand or filter glass, so you must always order this separately. The amount of filter sand you need depends on the type of sand filter pump. In the table below you can see how much filter glass you need for your pump.
